I'm loosing my little boy to school

Today was a rough day. Glenn had his meeting with the school system today to find out what he was eligible for as far as therapy and pre-K. I got more than I bargained for. He's going to be in pre-K every day during the week. I thought it would be 2, maybe 3 days, but not 5. It's going to be a really big adjustment. He'll be there from 8:20 to 1:00. I'm excited that he'll be in a pre-K class with both kids with developmental delays and kids without delays. He'll also be pulled out of class twice a week for speech and twice a week for occupational therapy. I was pleased that he was eligible for both. He's going to be at school for both breakfast and lunch. It's going to be pretty lonely at home without him (even though Bob works at home). Bob suggested I find some things to do. I think I'll go to the gym (don't worry, I won't work out too hard, I know I'm pregnant). Plus, I need to study for the public health certification exam I'm taking in August (I just got the study guide and I have a lot to learn). But next fall won't be a problem since I'll be taking care of the baby. We could have started tomorrow, but I opted to wait until Tuesday (Monday's a holiday), because I was in shock that he was going to be at school so much of the week.

He's also going to be taking a bus to school. They have a little bus with seatbelts and an assistant. He'll just be riding with his classmates. And two of the pre-K classroom assistants will meet them off the bus and bring them to the classroom. We'll see how it goes and we can always change our minds and I could drive him to school. I was there today during the end of school and it was pretty crazy. The bus side seemed the most organized. Of course pre-K gets out before the older kids, but they get to school at the same time.

I'm bringing Glenn tomorrow to register him, and the teacher said we could stop by her class so we can check it out. That'll make me feel better to see it, and it'll be good for Glenn to see it with me so that he recognizes it next week.

So, as you can tell, I'm having a hard time. I wasn't supposed to go through this until he went to Kindergarden, which isn't for another year and a half.

We have been busy. We went to CT for Glenn's 3rd Birthday, and for Bob's brother's birthday. We packed in seeing a lot of people and did a lot of partying. We had a great time. Glenn even played in the snow a little, even though it was more ice than snow. It was a shock coming out of the airport in Hartford; we were dressed for the weather, but we were so used to warm weather that the cold really felt cold. The day we came home, it was in the low 80's, which is actually unseasonably warm for this time of year. It's been mostly in the 60's and 70's, although the mornings are pretty cool.

Today we had the big ultrasound. I'm 19 weeks pregnant today. The baby looked very good, all the measurement were great and the body parts were there. Glenn was so cute. He realized it was a baby. I had shown him some pictures of ultrasounds on the computer last night to get him ready for our ultrasound. When the baby wasn't in view, he was very concerned as to where the baby went. And now, for what you're all waiting for, Glenn is going to have a little brother. I had a feeling for a while that it was a boy, and actually kept referring to the baby as he. We have no idea for names. We had some ideas for girls names, but none at all for boys names. It may take us another 20 weeks until we figure that out. Right now, we're very happy that everything looked so good on the ultrasound.

Doesn't like cereal?

What normal child does not like cereal? Well, I don't know if Glenn is "normal" or not, but he doesn't like cereal! He loves to say cereal and sign it. But we've been going through a different type of cereal (or 2) each week trying to find one he likes. He used to love Cheerios, but he tried Mommy's cereal once and that ruined it for him (I think it was Basic4 and he ate everything but the flakes). Now, every morning, we'll try putting a little cereal in a cup for him to have with his milk when he first gets up. And then it either ends up being dumped on the table so he can sort through it and pick out what he wants, or we hear it being dumped into the sink. The funny thing is he will dump the cereal into the left side of the sink and then put the cup in the right side. I never taught him that, but he always puts the food in the left side. Then on Monday this week, he was rummaging through the pantry (I need to get a lock for that door) looking for a snack. I must have been doing my hair because I didn't hear what he did. But I went to help him look for a snack a little latter and found the Life cereal box on the floor of the pantry completely empty. I asked Glenn where the bag of cereal was, and he brought me to the sink. He had dumped the entire bag of cereal into the left side of the sink and the empty bag was in the right side of the sink. I couldn't believe he had wasted a whole box of cereal. All Bob could say (between chuckles) is, "I guess he didn't like that cereal."

Boots

Glenn loves Boots the monkey on Dora the Explorer (he has red boots that he sings about a lot). And he also loves it whenever he sees boots on tv. So, I decided he needed a pair of his own. So, at Target yesterday I got these for $3.75!!!
Boots
He loves his boots, but they are pretty hot, so they don't stay on his feet long unless we're out. We met Daddy at the airport yesterday in the boots. And he put them on to go to the mailbox this morning. He can almost pull them on by himself because they have handles.

Bob just got back from a 5 day trip to PA. That was a long time for him to be away, and it was made worse by Glenn not wanting to talk to him on the phone. We're happy to have him home.

Not much new going on. I just wanted to post that we're doing great. Glenn and I have been getting involved in more activities with the mom's group in the community. So, he's really getting to know some of the kids well (and I'm getting to know some of the moms well, too). Bob's doing some traveling this month, just to PA. And we're going up to CT the end of the month to celebrate Glenn's b-day. It will be our first time back since we moved (well, except for Bob, who had to go back for a week for work). Then we won't be going back up until after the baby is born.

I've been feeling well. My red blood cell count has been doing really well. I haven't needed a Procrit shot for a month. But my uric acid has crept up (that can cause kidney stones and gout). So, I'm going to see a nutritionist to work out what I need to do as far as diet. It's been difficult trying to eat enough protein for the baby, but keep it down so my uric acid stays down. Obviously I'm not doing it well. But I may not be able to control it by diet alone anyway. I don't think I can be on any drugs to control it while pregnant. All my other numbers that indicate kidney function are the best they've been since they've been tracking them when Glenn was born. So, that's fantastic news. I'm also less nauseous- FINALLY! I thought it's never end.

Well, my little boy doesn't want to go to bed, so I'm off to tuck him back in. Everyone in CT- Enjoy all the snow you're getting in the next 24 hours. Be safe.
