We left last Tuesday to go to Nebraska to stay with my grandmother. It was the first time she got to see Alexander. But before we get to all of that, we'll start with the plane rides. We got to the airport and found out that our first plane was actually two flights, stopping over in Nashville before getting to Chicago where we changed planes. So, we had 3 flights!!! Glenn of course was happy with that, although on the third plane, he said something like, "We're going up again?!?" Alexander didn't get to be in his car seat because the plane was too full, and really only wanted Mommy, so my arms were pretty sore. Plus, he's not used to falling asleep in our arms because we trained him to fall asleep in the crib. Can't have it both ways, I guess. He did reasonably well, though. Then we had a little over 3 1/2 hours drive to my grandmother's house from Denver airport (she lives in Western NE, which is why we flew into Denver rather than Omaha. My parents also flew into Denver, so we could drive to NE together.
My grandmother was very excited to see us all, but I think especially the boys. I warned them they would get their squeezes. Glenn was afraid he was going to cry. I think he thought she was going to squeeze him really hard. So, I had to explain to him that just meant she was going to hug him. He was okay with that. My Uncle Gale, who I haven't seen for about 10 years because he lives on the West coast, was also there... a bit of a family reunion. Plus, my Uncle Byron and his family live in NE. It was so nice to see them again and just sit around the table and chatting. Alexander kept staring at them but then would eventually give his sweet smile while tilting his head after he had studied their faces.
While there, we went to the train yard. My grandmother's house is down the road from the largest train yard in the country. Here's a picture of Glenn inside the museum:

And here's a picture of the train yard from the lookout tower:

My grandmother always has had tea parties with all of her grandchildren. So, now it was time to have one with her first great grandchild. Glenn was very serious about the affair, insisting on wearing his Taggie as a hat, and had a serious expression throughout the tea party. He poured us all some milk and we had Teddy Grahams and strawberries:

I finally got him to smile at me:

Unfortunately, I forgot to get a picture of Alexander with my grandmother. I just discovered this. :(
We were a bit nervous about getting home since a snow storm was coming to Denver the day we were to fly out (Friday). But thankfully the snow stayed to the west until after we left. The boys had a hard time sleeping again on the plane (again it was too full for Alexander's car seat and he only wanted Mommy). Next time I fly, I'll book a seat for Alexander because he's too squirmy to keep on my lap the whole way. We got home around midnight and slept as much as we could the next day.
On Sunday, we (I should say mostly Bob) started putting in a vegetable garden in our back yard. It's going all along one length of the fence. I'll take pictures after we finish it. It's going to take a lot of vegetables to make up for how much it's costing to put this in. But I really enjoy gardening and I think it will be a fun thing for Glenn to see, too.
