Glenn's New Teeth

Glenn went to the dentist today to get his new teeth. He got a partial for his two front teeth to help with his speech. Well, it didn't go quite as planned. We go there, and the fit was fine, but the color is off. The dentist was quite upset with the lab for making them so white. The problem is that they have to make them so opaque so it hides the wire behind them. But they didn't put any yellowing in them at all. They actually look gray next to his natural teeth. So, we decided he would use this partial temporarialy until the new one came in. The owner of the lab said he would make them himself. But this meant he needed a new impression taken (not sure why). They put this goo on a tray and hold it in his mouth for two minutes. The problem is that the goo seeps out the back and makes a feeling like it's going down Glenn's throat and he starts gagging. Only this time, he actually threw up... several times. It was so hard. He had a tear down his cheek and kept biting the hygenist's fingers. But really, he was so good about it. However, the act of vomiting made the impression slide and it was completely useless. So, the dentist came in and did it herself, putting on less goo and leaning him forward. I can't believe he let her do it the second time. I was so proud of him. He wanted Alexander to sit on his lap when he was done. Putting on the temporary parial was a piece of cake compared to all that. Below are a couple of pictures, before and after. It's hard to see the color difference, so I zoomed in. It's very apparent in person. The dentist felt so bad, not only because it meant they had to put it in again, but because he threw up during the impression. I felt so bad because I ultimately made the decision to get the one that matches his teeth better. But he said he's all better now, and has a story to tell. He got to have some icecream as soon as we came home and then he wanted to make butterscotch pudding. So, that's what we did. I have to say, the teeth make him look very handsome. He was cute before, but goofy. But now he's very handsome. :)

Alexander is now drinking from a sippy cup! Although, he does still chew it a little, he is finally sucking on it. He loves to feed himself, but still enjoys having us hold him to feed him (I do, too!).


Glenn doesn't like to dress up, but he loves to have me dress Alexander up. And Alexander loves it. Here are some pictures.

We got a free pass to visit O2B Kids, and went yesterday with some friends. Part of it is a Children's museum where the kids can play, but they also have classes. We just played in the open play area.


School starts on Monday. Glenn got a card from his teacher today telling him about orientation this Friday. He's excited for school to start. I'm going to miss him, especially since he will be there from 8:30 until about 2:40 this year, but he's going to have so much fun. I think he's getting bored of being at home. Our excitement for the day today was going to Petsmart to look at the animals. He then said he wanted to go to the zoo, unfortunately it's a little hot for that. The Petsmart animals apparently aren't enough for him anymore.

Alexander had his 1 year check-up yesterday (it was postponed a month since we left for CT early last month). He's developing well. He is about 29 inches (45th percentile for height) and 20 lbs, 6 oz (20th percentile for length). So, he's about where he was for weight last time (percentile-wise), but increase in height. He's got to catch up to his brother. :) Just now, he was standing, then put his hands on the floor so he could look between his legs. Very cute!

We are in the midst of a marathon doctor/dentist visit week for the boys. They have 4 appts - one was just added today because Glenn has a cavity :( and he'll be getting impressions done so that he can get his kiddie-partial for his two front teeth that fell out to help with his speech. The dentist also said that a third tooth is loose. I'm not happy to hear about that. This is all because he got kicked in the mouth when he was at school over a year ago. I'll be happy when this week is over, although sad because that will mean Glenn will only have one more week of summer left. We start school on Aug 24th.

Glenn has learned a new trick. He's learned how to force himself to burp! Yeah, great! He even said his first burp word last week. At first it was funny, until I realized that he was forcing himself to burp. So, now I just matter-of-factly tell him to say excuse me, and then ignore him. He has also been telling me that he's dirty all the time because he wants to take a bath. Alexander got some new bath tub toys for his birthday, and Glenn is thoroughly enjoying them.

Alexander has decided that it's fun to feed the puppies his food. I'm trying to nip that one in the bud right away. But he's so cute when he walks over to them with food in his hand. And he also learned this weekend how to put balls in his toys that have a whole just big enough for the balls to fit in. That takes skill! We're so proud of him. :) He's also learning to climb the furniture. Sometimes he makes it, and sometime he seems to run out of energy. So, I'm teaching him to get down by sliding down on his tummy, feet first. But I still go and get him down anyway. The couch is pretty high up for a little body like his.

Trip to CT

We really enjoyed our trip to CT. We were there for 3 weeks. Bob traveled for most of it, but the boys and I spent time with family and friends while there. We had a party for my sister, Lisa and her fiance, Jon in honor of their upcoming wedding. It was more of a family and friends gathering with a garden theme. We went to several museums while there: Kid City (a children's museum in Middletown), the Mystic Aquarium, and the Peabody Museum (a natural history museum in New Haven). The boys had a blast at all of them. Below is a slide show of our adventures.

Zander (my nickname for him) has learned so many things this past month. He learned how to walk backwards, walk in circles pretty much in place (he'll do this for a long time and gets very silly), "blow kisses" (just does the hand movement, but doesn't really kiss), and is sleeping through the night consistently (Woo hoo!!!). HE also has a huge appetite. For lunch, he'll eat a few strawberries, a baby food container of veggies, and half a sandwich with hummus on it, and he's still hungry. I'm not sure where he puts it all.

Glenn has really been enjoying the summer. Now only if he would learn to sleep in. He's usually up before 7:00, which of course wakes his brother. He's likes to help clean the living room where we keep all of Zander's toys, however that willingness to clean doesn't carry over to his play room. He's going to the dentist next week, and we'll talk about getting his partial to replace the two teeth he lost. I think he'll be really happy once he gets through the whole ordeal.

I should have written down all the little stories I thought to write about, because now I can't think of any of them. Here are a couple more pictures of Zander.
